For one weekend in June 2007 we travelled to Ernst at the river Moselle, a modern wine village which is still viticultural marked as many wine growers are domiciled here. Nevertheless tourism has started growing here, too.

For accommodation we had chosen vineyard & pension Jobelius. Of course we intended to take some bottles of wine back to Dusseldorf. After arrival we first had a walk through the village and the environment (finally this hike took several hours).

After having enjoyed a sundae we sampled the first wines, followed by a nice diner as necessary basis for a further detailed wine tasting later at night. We tasted the wines of pension & vineyard "Jobelius" and chose some wines for taking home to Dusseldorf. As conclusion of this night we had another wine (or two) in another wine tavern (or two) ...
Now we are convinced to state: "Ernst is fun"!
On the next morning we made a detour to Beilstein. This picturesque village at the Moselle has been taken as coulisse for many german cinema movies since the 1930's. A market place which was built around the year 1322 makes the centre of the town. Around this place old houses and churches like the ancient finance office or the former church of St. Christoph are arranged.

The whole village consists of charming old houses and narrow alleys. By using one of these small alleys we reached castle Metternich, or better say the ruin. We had a splendid view over the valley of the Moselle!
