"Fidele Holzer" - General
To play at skittles is one of Germany's favoured leisure sports, and one of the oldest, too. Its origin is in the ancient Egypt. In Germany, playing at skittles was first mentioned in the chronicle of the city Rothenburg A.D. 1157. The "Fidele Holzer" did not exist then, though, they were constituted in 1961. Originally established exclusively by employees of local public transport company Rheinbahn, the club soon opened to anybody showing interest. Two of the founding members are still with us (up to date 2007).
I am member in this notorious men's society since 1995 – a club having its priority on gregariousness and disport, at the same time being sportive (or trying to be?). Once a month (on fridays) we meet in our local "Im Silbernen Ring", and once a month (on saturdays) our wives have to care for us and coddle us up.
