An intermediate vacation in Kuehlungsborn between Jan 2008 (Maledives) and Aug 2008 (Turkey) to shorten the time between those main vacations.

In April 2008 we took a downtime from daily grind and went to the german coast for recreation. For 7 days, Kuehlungsborn enchanted us with wonderful spring weather, varying environment, touristic high lights, shopping opportunities en masse and tons of fresh fish for diner. Our appartement was located in the shop- and restaurant center of Kuehlungsborn-East: central, but quit because the balcony was facing away from the street, with view to the Baltic Sea.

We calculated chill and rainy weather during our stay, but actually it only rained once. This one rainy day did not keep us from walking for 3 ½ hours to Heiligendamm. During this hike we felt chilly somehow but did not get wet as we had appropriate clothing.
For the remaining 6 days it was sunny and sometimes cloudy, but never rained again. It could have been a bit warmer though, 15° – 17° is not warm enough for bathing. We sometimes went to the beach, anyway, but a chilly breeze prohibited the feeling of beach vacation although everything looked like it: white sand, blue sky, people in bathing clothes, a green Baltic Sea which looked like the Med Sea in late summer. A deceptive sight: who wants to have a bath at 6° water temperature? For sure: the Wolf - he is used to ice-cold and rapid creeks and even the arktic ocean.

| Also we made a hike to most altitudinous German lighthouse: Buk near Basdorf. Besides calory consumption, this 3 ½ hour's walk was not worth while: when we arrived there a fog came up, and Buk was no more seen. Nor had we any view to the Baltic Sea. Actually we had no view at all. We abstained from climbing the light house, thus had no view to the danish island Lolland nor to the german island Fehmarn. We walked back to Kuehlungsborn just right to see the pier vanishing into fog as well: | ![]() |

A further attraction was a ride on the Molli, a wonderful restored historical train with the infrequent track of 900mm. We felt right back ages ago in the ancient railway cars. Our walk from Kuehlungsborn to Bad Doberan took app. 3 hours along the tracks of Molli, but the way back was sweetened by using this steaming and snuffling ironhorse. |

An event of special kind was a morning visit to Kuehlungsborn high ropes forest which was opened in april 2008 and only 5 weeks in operation since. The wolf let off a lot of steam in various hights. 2 hours of vertigo overbearing were charged with 16 Euro but were priceless! Here you will find some more fotos of this "test of courage". | ![]() |

A further agenda highlight was a day trip to Warnemuende. We had the great opportunity to watch the brandnew Aida Bella, the most recent ship of the AIDA armada. As we are experts what cruises are concerned - haha - we took the chance of course. To go aboard was not part of the programme unfortunately so we left it with some fotos from the pier. | |
| Warnemuende offered quite more on this day: the annual harbour party called Stromerwachen ("river waking") took place. A big event with many boothes placed along the port basins attracted thousands of people and made the day diverting. With many new impressions we went back to Kuehlungsborn. Three days later, we also were back in Dusseldorf although we had preferred checking in on the AIDA BELLA. That's our wanderlust... | ||

After our farewell we left a sad and lonely permanent tourist behind: the W-O-O-D F-E-L-L-O-W who fell in love with bumble bee just as all the other guys like the Holy Chris, the Pannier Guy, the Brolly Man, the Iron Patron or - many years ago - the Iron Man in Bensersiel.
We would have loved to stay longer. But at least we have treausured this nice vacation by generating this sub-page. Here you will find some more pictures from this getaway.
