Overview vacation on the Maldives
One of our favourite holiday destinations: the Maldives. Located south-west of India, amid the Indian Ocean, they consist of 19 atolls and app. 1200 islands. Nearly 87 of them are allocated for tourism. 99% of the Maldives area is expanse of water, only 1% is land area. Thus, land area is app. 298 km² against 107.500 km² water area. The capital is Male. On July 26, 1965 the Maldives became independant.
