For summer 2007 we again decided to have a hiking holiday. As we remembered pension Eibe in Oberstdorf being a nice location we booked a holiday flat there. But pension Eibe was sold inbetween to someone else and rebuilt. When we arrived we found a wonderful redecorated house which is called "Villa Alpjuwel" now.
As we had decided to walk around a lot in Oberstdorf our first action was to buy a so-called "GUT-Ticket". You can use many ropeways and most buses as well as many facilities like 'Erdinger jump arena' free of charge. (Jump arena only for visits of course. We did not jump, har har).
Our ticket lasted for seven days and we used it frequently. We mounted Kanzelwand-, Fellhorn-, Nebelhorn-, Walmedingerhorn- und Soellereck-ropeways for example.

From the top of these mountains we undertook wonderful ("wanderful") walking tours down to Oberstdorf or into the Kleinwalser valley.

Of course we visited the Erdinger jump arena and enjoyed the view from top. The Czech national jumping team was present and made summer training - very interesting to watch, but please do never ask me to jump down there....
While our hikes in the mountains we frequently made a break - eventually we were on holidays!

Whilst our vacation we had contact to the domestic fauna. Of course we also drank some cold buttermilk as refreshment. Moreover we cold relax our feet in rapid, icecold creeks - as often done before.

As mountain hiking makes hungry we often had to eat 'Schweinshaxe' and other bavarian gastronomic specialities - including a big pint of beer (or two, or three, or...).
Then we visited the 'cattle split' (German: 'Viehscheid': the cattle is driven down from the mountain pastures into the valley). The cattle split is an experience worthwhile but very difficult to describe in words. Of course you see many handsome dairymen and -maids driving their cattle into the valley. Each and every cow wears a very big bell, thus you will hear them long before you can see them. And how you can hear them! It sounds like an earthquake coming nearer slowly. When finally the cattle have reached the place where they are split you do not hear your own voice no more!
The 'cattle split' is a real fair with bag and baggage like: pavillons, beer-, pretzel- and many more catering boothes, barbecue facilities and the like. The local youth celebrates frolicsome. Around noon time many of them are ratted yet.
But this could not happen to us. Not this time. We just savoured this spectacle and tasted the one or other delicacy. We had a great day.
