The Rotweinwanderweg ("red wine path") has a length of app. 21 miles and follows the lovely valley of the river Ahr. During the vintage this is a lovely place to walk. We have walked this hiking trail twice (so far). The first time from its very end in direction to its start (in other words downstream). The second time we hiked upstream. The downstream way is more romantic, or better say, the rear end of this path has more splendid views than the beginning. Some impressions from 2003:

This path has often been described. Thus we will spare a location plan now. Worth mentioning is the fact that you may get very fresh and cooling grape juice along the way - and of course white and red wine. Many wine growers place wooden tables and chairs along the road where you may get dewy refreshments (from the vintners' own products, of course). A MUST - we never tasted such cool, crispy, and delicate juice before. During the hike we refused wine. Alcohol makes your legs tired! Back home in the evening we caught up on everything - cheers!
