As Birgit, the bumble bee, often enthused about the Maldives Klaus the wolf saw for himself with his own eyes that the Maldives are worthwhile spending a holiday. So we booked a room on the the small island Velidhu which is located in the Ari atoll.

Velidhu has the giant size of 250 x 100 yards. The island is overgrown with shrubbery and palm trees. Within the lagoon you may swim and watch the sea fauna, and the house reef is in a few yards distance from the beach.

The single bungalows are palm-leaf covered and are furnished with air condition, fan, and a fridge.

Besides the single bungalows you can book water bungalows which are more comfortable - but you will miss the Robinson feeling inside.
At arrival we got a single bungalow in the second row. Bumble bee was very displeased .. second row? After the wolf had claimed we were relocated to a bungalow in the first row (with ocean view!). Biggi was happy. At night we could hear the sound of the sea rushing. It was phantastic.
After unpacking we got our fins and diving masks and made a snorkel tour along the house reef. An unmanageable number of fishes in many species welcomed us, amongst them uncountable surgeon fishes. It was quite impressing to swim within the swarms of fishes. At moments you could hear the parrot fishes noshing the coralls. We did not see turtles but rays and octopuses. Within the lagoon you could watch the nursery of family Shark and family Ray. Ashore we observed the "shaking mussels", day geckos and chicken running around.
We felt like being in paradise: snow-white sand, green palm trees, blue sky and a blue-green warm sea.
Each evening we gathered on the beach to watch the sundown and enjoy a (non-alcoholic) cocktail.
And of course we always looked forward to the diner and the phantastic food. The staff - whether roomboy, waiter or beach sweeper - was exceedingly good-natured. This is one of the reasons why we really spent an unforgettable vacation on this small, shoeless island.
